Dr Amber Taylor

Registered Senior Clinical Psychologist

Following my undergraduate Psychology (Bsc) degree I undertook further post-graduate training in both Mental Health Practice and Low-Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Interventions. I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2019 after completing my doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Surrey in 2019. Alongside my clinical training, I also received an additional foundation level certificate in systemic and family therapy.

As a qualified Clinical Psychologist, I have worked both in the NHS and independently with children, young people and families in a range of settings including paediatrics, education settings and mental health teams. Prior to leaving the NHS in 2023, I led on the development of a new service, embedding early intervention mental health support into specialist schools across Surrey.

After moving away from the NHS, I have worked therapeutically in private practice alongside my role as lecturer and clinical tutor on a clinical psychology doctoral training programme. I built upon my interest in neurodevelopmental conditions during my doctoral thesis research, which sought to explore the experience of autistic girls and specifically the impact of masking and social camouflaging. Through my clinical work I have supported many neurodivergent children and young people both in individual therapy and through liaison with their wider network (including schools, families and other services).

After relocating to Northumberland with my family I now work with Autism North East to provide evidence-based, adapted, therapeutic interventions and post-diagnostic support for young people and their families. I enjoy working with children and young people and strive to find creative ways to engage and adapt therapeutic work. Whilst I understand therapeutic support can feel daunting, I aim to work with families to find positive steps forward whilst also recognising their unique skills and strengths.
