Dr Helen Taylor

Registered Principal Clinical Psychologist:
BSc, DClinPsych

Prior to my training in Clinical Psychology, I worked on a research study exploring the genetics of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and was involved in developing a teacher telephone interview to support diagnosis of ADHD. I also worked at Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health in London in an autism second opinion service.

I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist at Newcastle University in 2005 and spent time working in child and adolescent mental health services, adult mental health services, learning disabilities services, and older adult services as part of my training.

After qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist, I worked in NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in the North East for 12 years, specialising in working with autistic and neurodiverse children, young people and their families.

I have further specialist training in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and cognitive assessments and have delivered intervention programmes including the Beating Anxiety Together Programme.

In addition to my role at Autism North East, I conduct autism research at Newcastle University, developing and evaluating interventions for autistic people.

I really enjoy working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences and their families to develop an understanding of their strengths and difficulties and ensure they can access the appropriate support to enable them to reach their potential in life.
