Steph Fielding

Specialist Speech and Language Therapist:
BSc (Hons), MRCSLT, MASLTIP, HCPC

I qualified as a Speech & Language Therapist from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2007. I recognised early in my career how much I enjoy working with autistic individuals and their families. I have since taken on varied roles within a range of clinical and educational settings where I have developed highly specialist knowledge, skills and experience in providing detailed assessment and support for individuals with social communication, interaction and language needs.

I have extensive experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams, with pre-school and school-aged children, within both mainstream and specialist education provisions. I have experience of working with adults with complex communication needs.

I use a combination of detailed observation and more formal assessment approaches and resources to gather information relative to individual communication, interaction and language strengths and needs as part of multi-disciplinary assessments and for planning appropriate strategies for support.

I am a qualified Makaton Regional Tutor and have completed specialist training which supports my role within multi-disciplinary neurodevelopmental assessments including ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) and SCERTS (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support).

I am very passionate about supporting access to timely multi-disciplinary assessment and support, affirming neurodiversity through promoting acceptance and inclusion and helping individuals achieve their full potential.

I work both part time within the NHS and as a team member for Autism North East.
